Many of my friends from the Russian-speaking community are interested in picking up mushrooms in the forests around Ottawa. This hike is for those who are interested in where to pick up mushrooms, what are existing rules and regulations, and basic knowledge of how to identify edible mushrooms.

Eagle's Nest Lookout is one of the most famous places around the Ottawa area with a beautiful view of lakes and forest.  First, we plan to visit the Eagles Nest lookout that to admire saturated fall colors and the beauty of this place. After that, we'll explore the Calabogie areas suitable for mushroom collection.

Mushroom Identification Tour to Gatineau Area

This is a guided tour for those who want to know more about mushrooms in Ottawa Valley. The middle of July is a time when the first summer edible mushrooms appear in forests. We hope to see several species of chanterelles and we'll try to learn how to identify edible and poisonous species of mushrooms.

Early August is a time when the first bird migrants start to move to the south: ruby-throated hummingbirds are among those migrants. This is also a time when you can observe some tiny amphibians (spring peepers and grey tree-frog) hunting insects from tall perennial plants... If you are interested to see the changes in nature after bird breeding season, join our guided tour to High Lonesome Nature Reserve, located near Pakenham in Ottawa Valley.

Exploring Gatineau nature in August

This guided tour is for those who like to explore new places. We'll meet in the center of Ottawa near Dow's Lake at 8:30 am and we'll go together to the Gatineau area from there. In Gatineau, we'll visit several areas near Val-des-Bois, including the area adjacent to several lakes and a small waterfall.

This is a trip for nature and mushroom lovers. We will visit the Marlborough Forest, located not far from Ottawa. This place is known as homeland for several species from Suillus genus. We'll learn how to identify the different species of Suillus and other Boletes. During our guided hike, we'll learn also about other various kinds of mushrooms and fungi.

Guided mushroom identification tour to Gatineau area

This is a guided tour for mushroom enthusiasts on Sunday, August 13. We'll explore several places in the Gatineau area (crown land) that to see a diversity of mushrooms at this time of the year.  We learn how to identify mushrooms and know some basic rules related to their search and picking up. Please, confirm your participation. We'll meet at Parking 17 in Gatineau Park at 9:30 am (this is the exit to Wakefield from Highway 5). From there, we'll drive together to the places of our excursion.

We'll talk also about the diversity of mushrooms in Ottawa Valley and about other forest creatures we'll be able to spot.
