π Come Explore With Us!
An Ottawa Parents Family Nature Adventure
Wednesday, September 9 | 4:00β6:00 PM
Mer Bleue Bog
If your child stops for every bird, bug, funny-looking leaf or animal track β or asks you nature questions you definitely donβt know the answer to π β this afternoon is for you.
We spend every week sharing things to do around Ottawa. This time, we thoughtβ¦ why donβt we actually go together?
Weβre inviting our Ottawa Parents community to a small, relaxed nature adventure at beautiful Mer Bleue Bog, just as summer begins to turn into fall. πΏπ
And weβre bringing someone who can actually answer all those questions!
Nature expert Elena Kreuzberg from Holarctic Bridge will explore with us and help the kids notice all the fascinating little things we normally walk right past.
Weβll discover which birds are getting ready to migrate and which will stay for the winter, search for signs of beavers and muskrats, learn how raccoons, skunks and other animals prepare for colder weather, find out how trees know winter is coming, investigate the wonderfully strange tamarack, explore bog moss and see what other surprises nature has waiting for us.
π¦ Weβll slow down, listen for birds and see how many species our little explorers can spot.
And toward the end of our adventure, weβll head closer to beaver habitat. π¦«
Of course, wildlife has its own schedule, so we canβt make any promises β but late afternoon is a wonderful time to watch and listen for signs of beaver activity. Fingers crossed! π€
π The kids have a mission!
Every child will become an Wildlife Detective for the afternoon.
Our young explorers will receive their own Wildlife Detective activity sheet and complete little challenges along the way β spotting birds, looking for animal clues, investigating plants and checking off their discoveries.
And yesβ¦ thereβll be a little surprise waiting for our Wildlife Detectives at the end. π
Weβre intentionally keeping this adventure small β only 20 participants β so the kids can actually see, explore, ask questions and interact with Elena. And hopefully, us parents will get a chance to meet each other too.
Plus, Mer Bleue is beautiful in the late-afternoon light, especially as the first hints of fall begin to appear. Bring your phone or camera β you might come home with some lovely September memories. πΈπ
