Description

Discover the fascinating world of fungi during a small-group, guided mushroom walk focused on forest ecosystems, seasonal biodiversity, and the remarkable diversity of mushrooms found in the Ottawa Valley.

This outdoor learning experience is designed for nature enthusiasts, beginner mushroom observers, families, and anyone interested in learning more about local forests. During the excursion, participants will explore where mushrooms grow, how to recognize key identification features, and the important role fungi play in forest health, nutrient cycling, and biodiversity conservation.

The hike will be led by an experienced field biologist and will emphasize observation, identification principles, fungal ecology, and responsible practices in the field.

What to Expect

What to Bring

Please wear comfortable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear suitable for walking on forest trails. Participants are encouraged to bring: Water, a packed lunch or snacks, a notebook, a camera or smartphone, weather-appropriate clothing and an extra layer if needed.

Participants should not consume any wild mushrooms unless identification has been confirmed by a qualified expert and proper safety guidance has been followed.
